Having an additional blog thing is getting frustrating, since no one can reply to my posts, and following and what not is confusing.

As a transguy, I am subscribed to a good amount of trans oriented channels on Youtube and this video came up in my subscriptions today:

I was skeptical at first, but as I continued to listen… I got angry.

His basic point was people were transitioning because they were confused or seeking attention and he was annoyed. He talked about how he set the appropriate example a trans person should set by:

-Not being “flamboyant about it”

-Not “playing the trans card to exceed in life”

-Exerting a positive influence

-Having people “seem him as a person first”

First off? He says he wants people to see him as a person first as if this is some anomaly in the trans community and we are all to busy shouting at everyone I AM TRANSGENDER to be classy about it

They can be as “flamboyant” as they want about it, its their label. Its their identity. You cannot keep it hushed because there is a possibility they will be obnoxious

The point of transitioning, with whatever goal in mind, is for people to see you as the person you truly are. Whether they identify as trans for their transition, identify as the intended gender, or always introduce yourself as trans, it doesn’t matter. They are who they are.

Maybe we shouldn’t be warning trans people on proper edict and actually working on the root of the adversity threatening the individuals. 

And the trans card. Seriously? I have never seen someone use this to get ahead unfairly in life. What are they gonna do with it?

“Okay, your total comes to $4.52. Cash or credit?”
“Oh, I’m Trans” *Hands them a Trans Card
“Oh! Im so sorry. Here, its on the house”

Where can I get some of those? Did they hand them out when you came out, cause I missed that day I guess…

And finally:

You have no right to tell someone they don’t have the right to transition.  

You are making all these assumptions of people and telling them your feelings are more real than theirs. This is not some band you like, this is a serious life choice. Just because you found it first, does not give you more of a right to identify with it than anyone else. 

You are cheapening everyone’s transition to the possibility they are doing it because other people are doing it. You even tell us you are doing these videos to inform. Hell, I found the term Transgender through this amazing FTM community on Youtube.

You said you would have never been able to find this kind of stuff 3 years ago, and now there is so much more information being presented in an accessible way.

OF COURSE more people will start identifying, they finally know what all those deep, shameful, confusing feelings fucking mean. They know they aren’t a freak. They aren’t the only ones. And videos like this make accepting those feelings aren’t some ridiculous inclinations that could never actually happen so much more difficult for those first fighting those feelings.

How would you have reacted if someone discredited your feelings because, you know, everyone’s doing it. Think before you talk. It can seriously do damage. Set a fucking positive example of the trans community for the questioning people. Thats what the Q in LGBTQ is. Respect it. I was there for a long time, and it’s a scary place. You were there too. 

And with Trans Remembrance Day coming up Sunday, they don’t need this shit.
